District Disability Rehabilitation Centre
In the year 2006-07, the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has approved opening of District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) in 49 (forty nine) Districts of the Country which includes Karimganj District of State Assam along with other three districts of the state in order to provide comprehensive services to the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) at the grass root level through creation of the infrastructure and capacity building at District level for Awareness generation, Rehabilitation, Training / guiding of grass root level functionaries.
Indian Red Cross Society, Karimganj District Branch, was selected as implementing Agency for smooth running of DDRC as per Guideline of Govt. of India in the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment on September 13, 2006.
Various types of services are provided to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) such as Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, Psychotherapy, etc, issuance of disability certificates under the supervision of District Medical Board as well as concession certificates for PWDs as applicable. The DDRC, Karimganj has carried out few innovative activities like conducting Training Workshop, Awareness Programs, Assessment camp and Survey program. Brief of the performance recorded is provided below:
