Reproductive & Child Health (RCH): The Reproductive & Child Health Program (RCH), with an aim to reduce the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate(IMR) and to stabilize rapid growth of population explosion, popularizing the small family norms, launched in the year 1997 and after completion of the first phase second phase of RCH has been started in the year 2005. The Indian Red Cross society, Karimganj district branch was conferred prestigious Mother NGO (MNGO) by the Ministry of Health & family Welfare Govt. of India status in the year 2006 and thus the MNGO is working under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Assam with the four nos. of selected Field level NGOs (FNGOs) in the selected un served and underserved areas of Karimganj district details are as follows:

Major Activities under this project by the Field NGO:

  • Inter-sectoral Convergence Meet.
  • Orientation workshop on RCH for local level CBO/ NGO/ VHC members.
  • Advocacy Workshop with ANM/ ICDS/ PRI/ ASHA.
  • RCH Festival.
  • Focus Group discussion.
  • Inter Personal Communication by CHV.
  • Conducting immunization session.
  • Promotion of Family Planning (both Temporary & permanent)
  • Review Workshop with Stakeholders
  • Monthly review meeting of Village Health Committee.

Major Activities under this project by the Mother NGO (IRCS):

  • Induction Meeting with all the selected FNGOs.
  • Training on BLS at IRCS, Karimganj.
  • Workshop on FNGO Project Proposal Development conducted.
  • Capacity Building Training to FNGO staffs & CHVs
  • Training for FNGOs on Record & Accounts keeping.
  • Workshop on BCC involving FNGOs.
  • Periodical Field Appraisal.
  • Monthly Review Meeting.

Janani Surakasha Yojana (JSY)

This scheme was introduced with a view to encouraging the pregnant mothers for delivery in institution and thus to reducing overall Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) by providing financial help to the mothers  (Rs. 1400/- for Rural area & Rs. 1000/- for Urban area) delivering their children at the Govt. or its Accredited Health Institution. This Society started this program in 2006.

Ma-moni SCHEME: This scheme has been launched by the Govt. of Assam under Assam Vikash Yojona Programme to give financial support to the pregnant women to have nutritious food during pregnancy. This scheme has been effect from 1st March 2009. Under this scheme during the first registration, the pregnant women has given ‘Mamoni’ booklet & during the second Ante Natal Care (ANC) she will get benefit an A/C payee cheque Rs. 500/- and during the third ANC another Rs.500/-. Details of our achievement in this field are mentioned bellow up to 31st March 2011:

Mamata Scheme: This is to inform here the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) of Assam is one of the highest in India. One of the important cause of MMR is Post-Partum Hemorrhage (PPH) i, e, bleeding after delivery. The chance of bleeding will maximum within 24 to 48 hours after delivery. As a precautionary measure to save the women losing their lives from the complication of PPH, the Govt. of Assam is introducing a baby kit in the name and style of “Mamata Kit” to encourage the women to stay for at least 48 hours after delivery in the Health institute. The Indian Red Cross Society, Karimganj Dist. Branch also encourages the women for the said issue and details of our performance up to 31st March 2011 are as follows:
