HEALTH CHECK-UP CAMP:

In this reporting year the Society have organized 2 Nos. general Health Camp & Medicine Distribution and one Nos. Eye Camp in the remote part of the district. Details of these camps are as follows:-

  1. b) EYE CAMP :

The Eye Camp was organized with the help of Lions Eye Hospital, Silchar on 21/09/2017 at Pirotikor village of Badarpur Circle. Dr. Joya Nath, Ophthalmologist & Surgeon did screening of 218 Nos. of patients who attended the camp. Out of these patients 16 Nos. of patients were identified for cataract operation and the operation was done on 22/09/2017 at Lions Eye Hospital, Silchar.

 

TELE-MEDICINE CENTRE (TMC):

The Karimganj Red Cross Society setup a Tele-Medicine Centre at the Red Cross Hospital on 15.02.2015 in collaboration with “The Cachar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (CCHRC)”. The Centre remains open 24 hours and is manned by the CCHRC. On the last Thursday of every month a team of doctors attends the OPD for checkup of the cancer patients. Dr. Rabi Kannan and other doctors also regularly visit this Centre. Sometimes doctors from foreign countries visit this centre. The centre has given tremendous relief to cancer patients regarding wastage of time, money and also visit to Silchar with another helper. The number of the cancer patients visited this centre within the reported period is 680.

 

Disaster management Programme :

The society has eighty nos. Social Emergency Response Volunteers (SERV) and all are trained on First Aid and Disaster Management and with their cooperation we have organized WASH Programme in the various schools of the District, Mock Drill on First Aid and Disaster Management etc. in collaboration with the State Branch. In the year 2019 Indian Red Cross Society, Assam State Branch, has launched the “Partners for Resilience (PfR) Program” with support from Indian Red Cross, National Headquarter & International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent (IFRC) in the three districts of the state namely Karimganj, Kamrup & Karbi Anglong. The PfR program is based on Integrated Risk Management,

 

Ecosystem Management and Climate change Adoption. PfR uses the approach to build local resilience through community based disaster risk reduction interventions that addresses weather and climate-change-shocks and ecological degradation. The IRCS, Karimganj District Branch is proud that our district has been selected for implementation of the PfR programme as a pilot manner & the management of the Branch has selected a Goan Panchayet “Malua-Srigouri” for implementation of this pilot project and according to the discussion with the Panchayet Body of Malua-Srigouri G.P. the following three revenue villages have been selected for implementation of this project.

 

  1. Kandigram-Chaittyanagar Village. Srigouri Village.     &   3. Naharpur Village.

 

The field activities on Hazard Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (HVCA) of the PfR Programme has completed on 15th March’2019. During the field activities the volunteers of Indian Red Cross Society (Karimganj, Karbi Anglong, Kamrup district & State H.Q.) collected data and assessed socio-economic status, hazard & vulnerability through Public Meetings with villagers, Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRI), Inter-Personal Communication (IPC) etc. with the help of PRI members of the concerned villages and we found that the cooperation & participation of villagers specially women & aged persons was excellent.

 

NATIONAL SCHOOL SAFETY PROGRAMME :

Between the State Disaster Management Authority, Govt. of Assam & Indian Red Cross Society, Assam State Branch a MoU was signed for conducting the First Aid and Life saving Skills Training programme for school teachers in the different educational blocks of Assam. Accordingly the state branch gave responsibilities to our district branch to cover all the three districts of Barak Valley. 4nos. of Master Trainees from our Branch has engaged in these programmes as Resource Persons. 17 nos. of the training programmes throughout the Barak Valley were completed. In addition to that our branch has organized two nos. of District Level Training Prgorammes of School Focal Point Teachers & Head of Institutions for preparation of School Disaster Management Plan in collaboration with District Disaster Management Authority, Karimganj.   

 

RELIEF ACTIVITY :

  1. In 2017, Karimganj district along with the several parts of the state was severely affected by flood. The state HQ responded to our appeal for relief work with materials. The state Branch also sent 6 nos. of volunteers including one from the National H.Q. during relief work and installation of the water Purifier Machain. Our society distributed these relief materials as given bellow :

 

  1. i) One water-treatment plant was installed at the Suprakandi Swarupananda
    Institute on 07-09-2017 for purifying drinking water as many villages around
       Suprakandi were worst-affected by flood.  

 

  1. ii) We have distributed 1500 nos. of family package among the most affected   flood
     victim families of Karimganj district, each pakege contained Utensils, Bucket, Cloth,
     Bed sheet, Tarpoline and Mosquito net etc. Details are as follows :

  1. b) Relief to the fire victim : A fire broke out at the Char Bazar area on 20-11-2017 and Eleven families were affected and their properties gutted. They were supported with 1 no of Matress, pillow, bed-sheet, sari, blanket and one set utensils. We also provided one set of uniform to 9 nos. of students of these victim families.

 

  1. c) The same type of fire incident occurred at Shymaprashad Road and five nos. of family were affected and they lost their properties due to this fire incident. And we extended our help to the victim-families with some relief materials.

 

  1. d) Our society has given small relief in cash to the poor patients and some of our staff who were admitted in the Red Cross Hospital. In the year 2016-17 we were given Rs. 63,312.00, year 2017-18 Rs. 46,672.00 and in the year 2018-19 Rs. 46,928.00.

 

    

VISIT OF REPRESENTATIVE FROM IFRC, NEW DELHI & HONGKONG RED CROSS :

 

On 14th November’2019, the representative from International Federation of Red Cross, New Delhi Smt. Minu Bali & representative from Hongkong Red Cross Smt. Lalita Gurung along with Sri Laba Sharma & Sri Raj Sharma, State Branch visited our society.

 

The main objective of monitoring visit was to enhance understanding of the status for implementation of Social Emergency Response Volunteers Programme & strengthen the relationship among Hongkong Red Cross and IRCS & IFRC.

 

During their monitoring visit the following activities were conducted by our branch :

 

  1. A courtesy meeting with Branch Management was held on that day. Most of the managing committee members along with ADC (Health), Patron Member Sri Ajit Jain & Medical Officer of the Red Cross Hospital Dr. S. Das Lala were present in the meeting.

 

  1. After the courtesy meeting with branch management they discussed with our trained volunteers regarding SERV activities which are run by this society since the year 2013. The 24 nos. of volunteers attended this discussion.

 

  • One of their major activities was field monitoring to observe the implementation level of branch. They visited Srigouri High School and interacted with students and teachers on Water-Sanitation & Hygiene Activities of Red Cross Society. After that they visited Begum Kamrun Nessa Girls College, Srigouri and discussed with students on First Aid. Some students of this college presented demonstration on First Aid in front of IFRC & Hongkong representatives. Lastly as a part of their field visit they meet with community people at Srigouri and interacted with them on Red Cross activities in their area. Mainly they interacted with people on Vulnerability Capacity Assessment which was done by our volunteers in the month of April of this year. Before starting the field visit they attended the inaugural ceremony programme of Youth Red Cross at Karimganj College.

 

 

After completion of their monitoring visit they shared their views with the Hony. Secretary & Coordinator of our branch at Hotel Nakshatra. Details of their observation and feedback are as follows :

 

  1. They were very much pleased at our activities on SERV Programme.

 

  1. The interaction on the outreach activities of our branch with Community People & Students was excellent according to them.

 

  1. They appreciated us for the activities of our volunteers. They were very much satisfied with the interaction of our volunteers and according to them our volunteers are young, educated and they have sufficient information about the SERV activities.

 

  1. They were fully satisfied on understanding of working environment of our branch in the field of voluntary activities.

 

  1. They suggested us for organizing the refresher trainings of volunteers regularly.

 

CONSTRUCTION OF NEW BUILDING :

A grant of Rs. 10.00 Lacs (Rupees Ten Lacs only) was received from Border Area Dev. Fund of Govt. of Assam through the good offices of Sri Kamalakshya Dey Purkayastha, Hon’ble MLA, North Karimganj LAC. The 1st Floor of the DDRC Building complex within the Red Cross Society campus was constructed with this grant and this work was executed by the PWD Building Division, Karimganj.

 

GANDHAI STATIC DISPENCARY :

Electrification of the Gandhai Static Dispensary has been done on the efforts of the local public, Sri Kamalaksha Dey Purkayastha, MLA North Karimganj and the Society itself. Due to non-availability of doctors, this Static dispensary is unable to serve the purpose. Recently the Society has got a doctor and is going to reactivate this dispensary.

The Society observes the following National and International Days in the reporting years with much importance. This gives a scope of generating awareness about various health-related activities by using the same platform.
